Summer Series
Summer Series
Page updated for the 2025 season.
All Club Members are welcome. Whether you are having your first tri or doing that final prep for an international event, there’s something for you all.
Description
A series of training events of varying distance which provide great transition and brick training with that competitive element. You can turn up and compete in as many or as few Summer Series races as you like, but if you compete in sufficient events and score highly enough then you could be crowned ladies or gents DTC Summer Series Champion.
If you are new to triathlon then this is the way to learn how to put the different elements together. The first practice event is particularly aimed at those new to triathlon and new to the summer series. So if you’re a bit unsure please come along. We hope to have one of the coaches to talk and walk you through the whole thing.
Unfortunately these training sessions are only open to Club Members. However you can sign up now on SportMember!
These are training events, the routes are not marked either with directions or ‘Caution Cyclist’ signs therefore you must be careful and learn the routes. The routes can be found below. These are non-drafting events, please follow the Highway Code and give way as necessary at junctions.
To ensure the success and safety of the Summer Series we need volunteers, ideally 3, to be timekeepers and marshals. If you are thinking of taking part in the summer series please also volunteer to marshal. Should we have insufficient marshals, due to safety considerations, then someone who was expecting to take part will have to help out. We expect that anyone wanting to be eligible for the club trophies will have helped out in some capacity.
Cost
The cost of each summer series event will be £5.
Disclaimer
These are training events. While there are life guards at the swimming pool and safety marshals at the open water, you are entirely responsible for your own safety while riding and running. You must complete a disclaimer (same one for time trial & open water) before taking part. Only one disclaimer is needed for all DTC events in a calendar year, it is found on this link – DTC Members Disclaimer.
A printable version is available – here
No disclaimer no race.
Competition
There will be a male and female competition. Points are awarded as follows:- 20 for 1st, through to 1 for the 20th finisher. Your best 4 results (not including the handicap) will count to your final score. At the end of the series the male and female with the highest score will win. In the event of a tie, places will be determined by the results of head to head encounters. If this fails to find a winner the results of a 5th race will be included.
Results
Results will be posted along with current championship standings on the WebScorer web site as soon as possible after each event.
Courses
We have five Summer Series courses – A, B, C, D and E
Courses A, B and C have transition and the finish just outside of the Leisure Centre, Etwall. The start will be in the pool and will finish back at transition. Please arrive ahead of time to park and to set up your transition area.
Courses D and E are back! These both start, transition and end at Lavender Patch in Hilton, circulating away and back for both the bike and run. These are our open water sessions and are a great introduction to open water triathlons or to help gain confidence for the new season.

2025 Change – we will no longer be using the bus bay for transition, as such, we will now utilise the grass bank adjacent to the pool. Therefore, for the bike section, you will run with your bike (safely) to the edge of the car park edge, with mount/dismount line being the grates along the floor. For the run section, you will head through the pedestrian gate and follow up the pavement. For both changes, you will continue past the bus bay, and continue the route as previous years have.
