Derby Triathlon Club holds training sessions in and around the city of Derby and we have a strong junior membership with training sessions supported by fully qualified and DBS checked coaches. The club aims to provide children from 8-16 years of age with safe, friendly and fun training sessions based around the three disciplines of triathlon including transition practice. As a club we encourage children of all ability levels into the world of triathlon for the benefits of physical exercise in a fun and social environment-it’s up to each individual member if they choose to take part in any races.

DTC is accredited by British Triathlon and meets all requirements for the Bronze ‘TriMark’ standard.

Thursday 19:00-20:00  October – April (Except Bank Holidays & pool closures)
Etwall Leisure Centre Pool, Etwall, Derby

To attend this session swimmers must be able to swim 100 meters freestyle without stopping.

After the first 10 minutes this will be assessed by the coach.

Please note that juniors will be limited to 18 (three lanes).  Adults may be swimming in the other lanes.

MIN AGE: 8 years old in the current calender year.

Wednesday 19:00-20:00 – WINTER ONLY (Oct-Mar)
Moorways Track, Derby


Thursday 18:00-20:00 – SUMMER ONLY (Apr-Sep)

To attend this session swimmers must be able to swim 50 meters freestyle without stopping.

This will be at the discretion of the coach after assessment.

18:00-20:00 – 13 years and over
18:45-20:00 – 8-12 years (this means the child will be 8 at some point this year)

First half of session Bike or Run (5 week rotating pattern of run/run/transition/bike/bike), followed by second half in the 25m pool for swim training.

Outdoor sessions are all Weather Permitting

Membership & Costs

It costs £17.50 to become a DTC Junior Member (click here to join) and each one hour session costs £4 (£6 non-members); a two hour session costs £6 (£8 non-members)

Parent Responsibility

A parental agreement form will have to be completed by parents/guardians prior their children taking part. A register will be taken each week of those attending and it is expected that parents/guardians will leave and collect their children at the stated time. Children will remain with the coach until a child is collected.

Non-Club Sessions

Cyclo Cross (winter)

Notts. and Derby Cyclo Cross league. During the winter these are races usually on a Saturday afternoon for all ages. They are lapped races and off road, great for learning bike handling skills, something all triathletes need to be good at.

There is also the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League which have their races on a Sunday.

East Midlands Triathlon Series

The East Midlands Triathlon Race Series provides a number of races for juniors each summer which DTC juniors tend to target. You may end up being selected to represent the East Midlands at the Inter Regional Championships in September if things go well!! This is a chance to compete against other regions in the country. It is open for those athletes 11-14 years.

About DTC

Derby Triathlon Club (DTC) was formed in 1985, our aim is to provide a fun and friendly environment for you to pursue your multisport ambition. Our focus is on developing your three disciplines, regardless of age, level of fitness or current ability.

DTC now has a membership of around 200, comprised of both senior and junior triathletes.

We provide coaching in all four of triathlons disciplines (including transition).  We hold both regular sessions (i.e. weekly) and other sessions on a more ad-hoc basis.  We use several venues in and around the city of Derby for our training sessions.
