Summer Series
Summer Series - Back again next season 2012
Description
A series of 9 shorter distance training triathlons which provide great transition and brick training with that competitive element. You can turn up and compete in the odd Summer Series race but if you compete in sufficient events and score highly enough then you could be crowned ladies or mens DTC Summer Series Champion.
If you are new to triathlon then this is the way to learn how to race.
These training sessions are open to non-club members but please contact us first if you are interested in joining us: summerseries@derbytriathlonclub.co.uk. The DTC Summer Series Championship is only open to Club members.
These are practice events and the routes are not marked either with directions or ‘Caution Cyclist’ signs therefore you must be careful and learn the routes.
To ensure the success and safety of the Summer Series ideally 3 people are required to be timekeepers and marshals. The rota of helpers can be found by clicking here.
Please contact summerseries@derbytriathlonclub.co.uk if you are able to help out.
Should we have insufficient marshals to ensure the safety of the training then someone who was expecting to take part will have to help out.
Competition
There will be a male and female competition. Points will be awarded: 10 for first, 8 for second 6 for third and then 5,4,3,2, and 1 for 8th. Your best 5 results from the 9 events will count to your final score. At the end of the 9 events the male and female with the highest score will win. If there should be two or more people with the same score then the champion will be determined by who won the most head to head encounters.
Transition Training
For those of new to triathlon or those of you wishing to improve there will be transition training available on selected dates. No need to book, just turn up and Ian will be there to guide you through triathlon’s 4th discipline.
Courses
The Summer Series takes place over three defined courses. Transition is located near the swimming pool at Ewtall leisure centre and all the bike and run legs will start and finish here. Click on the route distance in the table to see the route map (please note the bike routes have not yet been updated with the new transition location but the route is correct).
| Course | Swim | Bike | Run |
| A | 200m | 11km | 3.8km |
| B | 400m | 15km | 4.6km |
| C | 500m | 29km | 5.5km |
Schedule
The practice nights will geared more towards novices but for the more experienced triathletes they will be an oppurtunity to focus on tranistiton and we may throw in some additional fun twists.
In order to clear the pool quickly for those who are swimming and to make space for the Juniors to use the pool the races will need to start promptly at 19:00 with a race briefing at 18:45 so please get here early and ensure your kit is setup before 18:45.
