Cycle Derby Spring Classic Sportive
Sunday 29th April saw a large number of DTC members braving the cold weather and winds to take on the Cycle Derby Spring Classic Sportive, many of whom did the full 160km route!
Starting out at Markeaton Park at 8am the full route went via Kedleston, Kirk Langley, Longford, Hatton, Marchington, Abbotts Bromley and on to Cannock Chase before coming back through Rosliston, Newton Solney, Repton, and Etwall. With around 5500ft of climbing throughout it was a good challenge, but the second half of the route from Cannock Chase back to Derby was mostly into a strong and cold North East head wind, which only added to the difficulty. Reportedly the temperature dropped to as low as 4 degrees Celsius!
Thankfully everyone made it back in one piece and the general consensus was that despite the cold everyone enjoyed it, though there were reports of people ignoring feed stations and going to a cafe instead. Proper athletes…
Special mention to Lindsey and Jenny who both conquered their first 100 mile rides. Well done ladies and well done everyone else who took part!
