As part of the 07/08 winter series I am planning on putting on four orienteering events and a trail run, all in dark. Talking with Ian last night the 07/08 winter series is going to be a bumper year. The following is a quick note about the planned events.

Night orienteering events, meet at 19:00 and first two person team off at 19:15. Each team will have one hour to collect as many check points they can. For each minute over the one hour the team will have 10 points and ten minutes added to their score.
Compulsory kit checks will take place before they start and you will need:
To be dressed for the weather…
Carry a compass, whistle and a torch (ideally head torch)…
Also you will also need a good pair of off road shoes and a set of hats and gloves may not go a miss.
We are looking at £2 a night and £3 for non members but this may be reduced.

The events are open to anybody in the club and anybody you which to invite.


The dates are:
9th Nov Darley Park.
7th Dec Allestree Park.
11th Jan Black Rocks
8th Feb Allestree Park. This will be our second night of frolics at Allestree, but… this time with a twist.

I need to know how many are expected as I need to get the maps printed. So please drop me a note on the Message Board if you are interested.

Also I would like to try a night trail run, about 5-6kms what do you think? Please let me know at the above address. Details so far are:

14th March - 5km night trail run. Venue to be confirmed but it will be local to Derby and start around 7:00. I plan to make it all off road and expect to visit places you would not normally go to. The terrain will be made up of grass, hard pack track, hills and probably mud! The route will be marked by reflective markers so lights will be a must.
